Bhubaneswar experienced a very cold morning on Thursday as the temperature dropped to 9.4°C, equalling the lowest temperature recorded on January 8, 1952, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
This is the fourth lowest January temperature recorded in the city since 1952, showing how unusual the cold weather is this year.
IMD said the cold conditions are due to chilly winds from a depression over the Bay of Bengal. However, no major weather change is expected in the next few days. Temperatures may rise by 2–3°C over the next two days.
The depression is likely to become stronger by Friday, but it is not expected to bring rain to Odisha.
