Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday launched the Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Primary School scheme and laid the foundation stone for 118 model primary schools across Odisha through a virtual programme at Banpur.

The CM said the scheme will strengthen primary education and help Odisha become a developed state by 2036. He called it an important step towards the vision of Vikshit Odisha, Vikshit Bharat.
Under the scheme, 2,200 model primary schools will be set up in gram panchayats across the state in the next four years at a cost of Rs 12,000 crore. The state government has allocated Rs 3,000 crore for the current year.
Each panchayat will have one modern primary school with better infrastructure, smart classrooms and quality teaching. The CM also stressed teacher recruitment, training and skill development.
Education Minister Nityananda Gond said the scheme will reduce the rural-urban education gap and ensure that no child is left out of school.
