Electronics and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that electronics has become India’s third-largest export category, moving up from seventh place. He stated that India is now the world’s second-largest mobile phone manufacturing country.

The Minister said this growth is driven by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of building a strong electronics manufacturing ecosystem. He highlighted that the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme has attracted over ₹13,475 crore in investment and led to production worth ₹9.8 lakh crore, creating more than 1.3 lakh jobs in the last five years.

Mr Vaishnaw added that the government is now focusing on manufacturing components, modules, and raw materials. He said electronics manufacturing has created about 25 lakh jobs in the last decade and will generate more employment as semiconductor and component production expands.
