No Pollution Norm Fines at Odisha Toll Gates Till April 1: Minister

The Odisha government has decided not to collect fines at toll gates for pollution certificate violations till April 1. This decision was taken to reduce problems faced by vehicle owners due to the shortage of pollution testing centres. Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena said that fines generated through electronic detection systems at toll plazas will also remain suspended during this period.
The minister said that having a valid pollution certificate is still mandatory under the Motor Vehicles Act. He added that air pollution is increasing and everyone must help in controlling it. Vehicle owners have been advised to use this relaxation period to get their pollution checks done, as only a small number of vehicles in the state currently have valid certificates.
