The people of Odisha have received a big blow due to the gazette notification released by the Ministry of Jal Shakti about the Vamsadhara Tribunal order.
The Neredi Barrage Project has raised concerns and doubts among the villagers residing near the Vamsadhara River in the Rayagada and Gajapati districts.
In the aftermath of the verdict, the villagers are concerned that if the speed of work increases, the villages may be inundated, and their farming lands and livelihoods would get affected badly.
As per the villagers, the project might make flood and rising waters more hazardous. Especially in monsoon, when the river water level rises, it can put the life of nearby villages at stake.
The residents are seeking clarification and proper action from the government for rehabilitation and security measures.
However, since no appropriate action has been taken by the state government yet, the residents of Gunupur and Kashinagar areas are becoming increasingly uncertain and apprehensive.
