Moquim to Launch New Party on National Youth Day

Expelled Congress leader Mohammed Moquim on Tuesday announced plans to launch a new political party in Odisha, with a focus on youth leadership and state-specific issues. The groundwork for the new party will begin on January 12, observed as National Youth Day, while the official launch is scheduled for the last week of March.
Moquim, who was expelled from the Congress on charges of anti-party activities, said the new political outfit would prioritise young leaders, particularly from coastal districts of the state. He said the party aims to provide a fresh political alternative to the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress, which have dominated Odisha politics for years.
The former Congress MLA said the party would focus on Odisha-centric issues and adopt a different approach to leadership and governance. While the name of the party has not been finalised, Moquim said it would maintain a connection with the legacy of the Congress. He added that consultations were underway to finalise the name, and astrologers were also being consulted.
Moquim said leaders from both the BJD and Congress, along with young professionals such as doctors, have shown interest in joining the new party.
When asked about the political future of his daughter, Sofia Firdous, Moquim said she would take her own decisions and that he had no role in shaping her political path.
The announcement has generated political interest in the state, as Odisha’s political landscape continues to witness shifts within opposition ranks.
