The fury of the villagers has erupted against the illegal sand mining and transportation activities from the Subarnarekha River located at Manu Nagar village of Bhograi block. The villagers have resorted to starting an indefinite hunger strike outside the Kamarda police station demanding the immediate arrest of the sand mafia.
The sand mafia has been carrying out their mining and transporting activities around the clock in the Subarnarekha River without any administrative intervention for quite some time now. It is leading to environmental degradation, and it is feared that very soon the village could get consumed by the river.
The transportation of the loaded trucks on the roadways has become a great cause of concern for people. Children going to school, along with other residents of the nearby villages, face hardships, and accidents occur all too often.

Though several complaints had been lodged previously, nothing was done by the administration. Having exhausted all options, the villagers have adopted such drastic measures.
If the sand mafia are not apprehended immediately, the protests will only escalate further, and the hunger strike will continue.
