US Closely Monitoring Iran Protests, Trump Signals Strong Response

The United States has sharply increased pressure on Iran as nationwide anti-government protests continue to spread across the country. US President Donald Trump said Washington is considering “very strong options” in response to Iran’s crackdown, including the possibility of military action. Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump said the US military is closely monitoring the situation and reviewing different responses, though he stressed that no final decision has been taken yet.
Trump also claimed that Iran’s leadership has reached out to the US to negotiate after his warnings, and that talks may be arranged. However, he cautioned that the US might act even before any meeting takes place if the situation worsens. There has been no immediate confirmation from Iranian officials regarding these claims.
The protests in Iran began in late December after the national currency sharply lost value, triggering anger over rising prices and economic hardship. What started as economic protests soon turned into wider demonstrations against Iran’s clerical leadership. Iranian authorities have imposed a nationwide internet blackout, making it difficult to verify information.
Iranian officials say dozens of security personnel have been killed, while opposition groups claim hundreds of protesters have died. Iran’s leaders have warned that any US military action would be met with retaliation, including attacks on US bases and Israel, raising fears of wider regional instability
