Yesterday, on the occasion of Good Friday, which is a festival for Christians, seven Christian families of Mudinucha village under Harichandanpur block in Keonjhar district were preparing for prayer in the church. At that time, hundreds of villagers from the same village reached the church, stopped the prayer, and locked the church.
As a result, a tense situation arose between the two groups. After receiving the information, Harichandanpur Tehsildar Himanshu Sekhar Panda, Ghatagaon SDPO Bijay Mahapatra, Harichandanpur police station IIC Mitali Madhulita Biswal, along with many police officers from Daitari and Ghatagaon, and two platoons of police force were present at the spot.
Administrative officials held prolonged discussions and meetings with both sides and villagers till evening, but no conclusion or solution could be reached. The situation in the village remains tense.
Since this area comes under the Chief Minister’s district, it has been seen that people of his community are opposing Christianity over certain demands.
Now it remains to be seen what steps the administration and the government will take in such a situation.
