Reservation policy would be brought in higher education and now benefits would be given to backward classes, said Nityananda Gond, education minister.

The proposed policy is already approved by state cabinet and from this year it would be effective. A new decision has been made by the Odisha government in regards to reservation in admission in medical, engineering, and other higher and technical education institutes.

As per the statement of the minister, 22.50% reservations would be granted to Scheduled Tribes, 16.25% to Scheduled Castes, and 11.25% to socially and educationally backward class. It would not only apply for education but also the scope of job would expand. Reservation seats would be increased also.

It should be noted that the earlier government had restricted their rights and could not provide them with proper benefits.
