Delhi HC to Hear Lalu Prasad’s Petition in IRCTC Scam Case on January 5

The Delhi High Court is set to hear on Monday, January 5, 2026, a petition filed by Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Lalu Prasad Yadav challenging a trial court order that framed charges against him in the alleged IRCTC scam case.
The petition also involves Rabri Devi, Lalu Prasad’s wife and former Bihar Chief Minister, their son Tejashwi Prasad Yadav, and 11 other accused. They have approached the High Court seeking relief against the framing of charges by a special CBI court.
Earlier, on October 13, the trial court framed charges of cheating, criminal conspiracy, and offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act against the accused. The case relates to alleged irregularities in the award of contracts for the maintenance and operation of IRCTC hotels during Lalu Prasad’s tenure as Union Railway Minister.
According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the contracts were allegedly awarded in return for benami properties acquired by the family members of Lalu Prasad. The accused, however, have denied the allegations and claimed that the charges are politically motivated.
The High Court’s decision on the petition will be crucial, as it will determine whether the trial proceedings will continue or if the charges will be reconsidered. The hearing comes at a politically significant time, with heightened attention on corruption-related cases involving senior leaders.
