Fake Doctor Arrest Demand After Woman’s Death in Balangir

Alleged Illicit Medical Clinic Operation in Muribahal Sector

It has been reported that an elderly woman had died due to receiving an incorrect injection from an illicit clinic in the village of Karlapita in the jurisdiction of Muribahal in Balangir district of Odisha state. Following the occurrence, the relatives of the victim called for the immediate arrest of the accused, identified as Tunu Bagarti, who allegedly was operating a clinic without any medical certification.

As per the news report, an elderly lady named Kaushalya Panika of the village of Karlapita became ill on the 10th of the current month. Kaushalya’s granddaughter named Divya Panika brought her to a clinic situated in the village of Haldi. Family members claim that after Tunu Bagarti had injected her, the condition of Kaushalya deteriorated rapidly and she collapsed in the clinic.

The family further alleged that after the woman’s death, efforts were made to settle the matter by offering ₹1 lakh in compensation. They have demanded strict action against the accused and questioned why police have not yet arrested him.

Meanwhile, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) of Balangir has ordered an inquiry into the incident. However, locals alleged that despite the seriousness of the case, the accused continues to move freely.

Residents have also raised concerns over the increasing number of unauthorized clinics and unqualified practitioners operating in rural areas, allegedly putting innocent lives at risk. The incident has sparked fresh debate over healthcare monitoring and enforcement in remote regions of the district.
