Indian Army Marks Major Operational and Technology Achievements in 2025

In 2025, the Indian Army achieved several important operational and technological milestones, strengthening India’s defence and deterrence capabilities.
After the Pahalgam terror attack, the Army launched Operation Sindoor in May 2025. During this operation, nine terrorist camps were destroyed and seven terrorists were neutralised across the border. The strikes were precise, limited, and time-bound, sending a strong message while avoiding further escalation. The Army also destroyed more than a dozen terror launch pads along the Line of Control (LoC).

The Army made strong progress in missile and artillery systems. A BrahMos missile unit under Southern Command successfully carried out a combat missile launch. The Pinaka multi-barrel rocket system was also tested successfully, improving the Army’s ability to carry out long-range and high-precision attacks.
In aviation, the Army received six AH-64E Apache attack helicopters, moving forward in its long-pending Army Aviation modernisation plan.

A major highlight of 2025 was self-reliance. About 91% of the ammunition used by the Indian Army is now indigenously produced. The Army also inducted advanced Unmanned Aircraft Systems, including around 3,000 remotely piloted aircraft, 150 tethered drones, and swarm drones, boosting surveillance and battlefield awareness.

To improve decision-making, the Army set up Edge Data Centres, allowing faster data processing closer to combat zones. It also focused on technology integration, moving beyond just adopting new tools to fully embedding them into operations.

On the global front, the Indian Army conducted joint military exercises with France, the USA, Thailand, Australia, the UK, and the UAE, enhancing cooperation in counter-terrorism, urban warfare, and regional security. It also organised the Chanakya Defence Dialogue 2025, focusing on the theme “Reform to Transform” for a secure and developed India.
Overall, 2025 marked a year of strong operational success, technological growth, and global engagement for the Indian Army
