Tirupati: Two assistant professors of a central university in Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh, have been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting, harassing and blackmailing a student from Odisha.
The victim, a 27-year-old B.Ed student, alleged that one professor, Dr Lakshman Kumar, misused his position and sexually assaulted her inside his office. She also claimed that another professor, Dr A Shekhar Reddy, took photos or videos during the incident and later threatened to make them public.
After the student approached the university’s anti-sexual harassment committee, the in-charge Registrar Professor Rajanikant Shukla filed a formal complaint on December 6.
Police have registered a case under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and arrested both professors. Further investigation is underway
