Wishes Fulfilled by Whispering in Sacred Bull’s Ear
Odisha is known as a land of deities and deep faith. There is a sacred place in Odisha where devotees believe that if they whisper their wishes into the ear of a stone bull, their desires get fulfilled. Interestingly, no one has been able to accurately count the carvings on the body of this bull till today.
We are talking about the ancient shrine of Shri Shri Baba Subarneswar Mahadev located in Bant block of Bhadrak district. This place is associated with history as well as many mysterious and miraculous stories.
The temple is situated between Mahantipada and Bitipur villages. Inscriptions from the time of Gajapati Purushottam Dev prove the historical importance of this shrine. It is also popularly known as the Basua Bull Temple. According to local belief, even during the attacks of Kalapahad on temples across Odisha, this sacred bull remained untouched here.

The biggest mystery of this temple is the stone bull present in the temple premises. There are numerous small carvings on its neck, back, and legs. It is said that no devotee or visitor has ever been able to count these carvings correctly. The number seems to change every time it is counted. This mystery attracts thousands of devotees to the shrine.
For centuries, rituals like Patua Danda Yatra have been observed here with deep devotion. Devotees fulfill their vows by piercing their bodies and circling the temple. Since 1973, a nine-day recitation of Shri Ram Charit Manas has been held during Maha Vishuba Sankranti, attracting devotees from nearby districts like Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar.

Odisha’s first Chief Minister, Dr. Harekrushna Mahatab, was also associated with the temple trust. The ancient Sita-Ram Math within the temple premises adds to its spiritual atmosphere. Devotees firmly believe that whispering their wishes into the ear of the Basua bull leads to the fulfillment of their desires by Baba Subarneswar.
