Mother Demands Justice in Nirgundi Double Murder Case, Seeks CBI Investigation

The demand for justice in the sensational Nirgundi double murder case under Tangi police jurisdiction in Cuttack district has seen a resurgence yet again. Speaking at a press conference, Wahida Khanam, the mother of the late MD Saheb, accused some powerful individuals of having committed the murders but said that the police were protecting them. The victims’ family members have demanded a CBI inquiry along with the arrest of all the accused in the case.

This heinous crime took place on the night of January 31, 2025, within a poclain garage in Nirgundi in the Tangi region. It is alleged that Prashant Jena of Choudwar and MD Saheb were partially disrobed, doused with cold water amidst harsh winter, and finally beaten to death using hammers. This horrific crime has shaken everyone in the state.

Post the crime, the Tangi police arrested six-seven individuals who were sent to court. But it has been alleged by the victims’ family members that many others, who were involved in the crime, continue to move around freely despite committing the crimes. Locals claim that more than fifteen individuals were present at the scene of the crime on that night.

They added that despite having the whole incident recorded on CCTV cameras, no action has been taken by the police against those people who are influential in connection with the incident.

While justice is still awaited even after a lengthy period, the aggrieved mother made an appeal to Law Minister Biswabhusan Harichandan and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. This request was accompanied by the demand for CBI investigation into the incident.

On their part, the police authorities claimed that there are ongoing investigations in the matter, and justice will be done to the victims’ family members.

The incident remains controversial in the sense that there are still many unanswered questions regarding when the arrest of all those accused in the case will be made.
