₹27 Crore Dedicated Market to Boost Handloom Sector
There have been recent developments in the state government’s policy that seeks to boost the handloom sector in Bargarh through various facilities. The weavers’ market will come up at Behera-Balijori with an estimated investment of ₹27 crores. This market would ensure that the weaving industry in Bargarh benefits from modern infrastructure and other facilities.
The laying of foundation stone for this project was done by Handloom, Textile and Handicrafts Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta, which has excited all sections of the weaving community. This move is likely to economically uplift the weavers and give a further boost to the region that has been already renowned for handloom and textile products.

The district has been renowned for its age-old tradition of paddy cultivation, dhanuyatra festival, and weaving. However, the weavers are currently operating from unorganized open places but now would have an organized market facility to work from.
A number of important dignitaries participated in the laying of the foundation stone of the market complex including MP Pradeep Purohit, MLA Ashwini Sarangi, MLA Nihar Mahananda, MLA Irasis Acharya, and MLA Sanat Gartia.
Besides making a positive impact on business opportunities, the project is also expected to bring about a great improvement in the financial state of weavers, which will go down in history as an important phase in the development of the handloom sector.
In the past, when the previous government built a building, it could not fulfill its intended function due to improper planning, infrastructure deficiency, and other factors like parking space. Therefore, the weavers did not use the building and kept on working in open grounds like the RMC market yard.
Now that the present government has taken up this initiative, the weavers have high hopes of carrying out their business activities with dignity in a well-organized market place.
