Anganwadi Worker Faces Serious Allegations in Cuttack’s Mahanga Block

Serious allegations against an Anganwadi worker in Cuttack district have emerged. People said she delayed the releasing of aid meant for them. The beneficiaries lodged written complaints with the Principal Secretary of Women and Child Development in Bhubaneswar and Social Welfare Officer in Cuttack, in protest.

The worker was below the minimum age requirement to be employed for the job at the centre. As per the complainants, the Anganwadi worker was late in distributing government supplied chhatua, eggs and other nutritional materials. They claimed the center is not being opened regularly according to Indian government’s protocol. Parents of kids that went to the camp also said that they were not given sufficient information about centre activities and were treated in a bad way by the worker.

Upon receiving the complaint, Mahanga CDPO, District Social Welfare Officer Babita Jena along with other officials, went to the Anganwadi centre on Friday. However, the stall in the inquiry happened after an altercation broke out between the complainants and supporters of the Anganwadi helper at the spot.

According to District Social Welfare Officer Babita Jena, the inquiry got stalled due to the verbal clash of both groups. In contrast, the Anganwadi helper dismissed all accusations and stated that the charges made by the recipients were fabricated.

Local residents are now waiting for a proper investigation to be conducted and for the truth about the allegations to come out.
