As the summer becomes scorching, zookeepers at Sambalpur Zoo have made every possible effort to help animals cope with the heatwaves.
There are several measures implemented in the zoo such as coolers and air-conditioned facilities to protect large animals and shades for herbivores. Keepers spray cold water thrice a day to lower the temperature within the enclosures.
The zoo, housing over 300 animals in 26 enclosures, has made small pools for the animals and provided shelter with bamboo and leaves. In addition, there is special food provided according to seasonal needs such as watermelon, cucumber, curd, and even ice food for animals.
Another unique thing at the zoo that attracts many visitors is the bears enjoying themselves with blocks of ice. All this seems to be paying off not only for the safety of the animals but also for tourist visits since more visitors are seen than previously.
In conclusion, all these measures will be helpful in protecting the animals.
