As per the tradition, Farmer’s Day was celebrated on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya in Nabarangpur district in Odisha.
The event began with Bhumi Puja and started with the commencement of farming activities through Akhi Muthi Anukula, a ritual in which farmers sow paddy seeds after praying to the land. It is an old practice that initiates the season of farming and symbolizes the agricultural culture of Odisha.

State Minister for State School and Mass Education Nityananda Gond and Chairman of Planning Board Gouri Shankar Majhi graced the event as chief guests. Both the dignitaries carried out rituals and ploughed the field in the traditional way.
In the program, they had an interaction session with farmers and enlightened them about various schemes initiated by the government in the field of agriculture. In his address to the audience, the minister said agriculture is the base of the economy of Odisha and farmers are the source of food production. Also, he mentioned that the government has undertaken many welfare schemes for farmers and will continue to enhance them in future.
