Government Welfare Schemes Remain a Distant Dream for the Poor;

Public Cries for Help

Even after the launch of various welfare schemes by the state and central governments, a considerable number of genuine beneficiaries are still deprived. The officials have been posted by the state government on the level of districts and blocks to implement the schemes properly. But reality does not match the theory.

Beneficiaries, who deserve the welfare schemes’ benefits, visit the block office with a hope but return disappointed. They do not have any other way than continue their life in broken huts. When asked about this issue, it is reported that Block Development Officer (BDO) says that every beneficiary has got his due share without any detail.

The government officials, working in government offices, who get their salaries through public money, are now accused by the general public of ignoring genuine beneficiaries and depriving them of welfare schemes.

An example, where irregularities in welfare schemes could be found, can be of housing scam that has already been brought to notice of High Court by Narsinghpur Panchayat. Many needy people have been unable to benefit from these housing schemes because others got benefits without any need for that.

In the same way, a few real beneficiaries have not been provided with the ration card, whereas those who do not face any difficulty in meeting their basic necessities enjoy such privileges. Furthermore, there is another problem of drinking water during summer months when people have to suffer from a shortage of water in many regions, with some places having saline or impure water for consumption.

There comes a very important question whether these welfare schemes can serve their purpose effectively if they cannot help deserving people.
